As early as 1941 Henry Ford used car parts made from hemp plastic. The hemp car was able to withstand ten times more impact than its metal counterparts and even ran on hemp fuel.
Building materials such as insulation, matting, cement and paint are all within reach of hemp's capabilities. Terry Waite (one of the first to build a house using hemp for the floor, walls and ceiling) praises its outstanding sound and heat insulation properties - in France there are 300 such homes. Landfill sites around the country are a testament to the growing need to find suitable alternatives to plastic and non-recyclable waste. |
