THE HOME OF HEMP SINCE 1995
We want to let all of our customers know that our fabrics cutting team are taking a much-needed break from 26th May to 6th June. The final date to order cut fabrics and have them despatched before our break will be the 25th of May.
During our break from 26th May to 6th June, no cut fabrics orders will be despatched. Any fabric sold "by the metre" will be affected. You will still be able to order our expanded range with longer lengths of fabric off-cuts, webbing, strapping, edging and swatches for a timely despatch (usually 2 working days).
Although you are free to place your cut fabric order, please bear in mind that it will not be processed until 7th June at the earliest. Once the team return, refreshed and revitalised, we will begin cutting and despatching fabrics in date order.
All other products are unaffected, you will still be able to order foods, cbd, beauty, clothing, bags and other products during this time and have them despatched within the usual timeframe.
This fabulously flowing linen-like 100% hemp fabric covers a multitude of uses in all manner of clothing & interior projects. The natural colour of the hemp fibres makes this a wonderful choice for anyone who likes a pure and natural look to their fabric, and it also takes dye very well thanks to the super absorbent nature of hemp!
"The colour of this fabric is lovely, it's blend of natural hues make it ideal for anyone interested in historical costuming. The weave is very fine with few slubs that make it reminiscent of a finer, more expensive linen. It is a light to medium weight which would gather well and be perfect for tops, shirts and slips."- Vicky, Sewstainability.blog

If you're looking for a sustainable natural fabric then hemp is the way to go. When it comes to eco-friendliness, 100% hemp fabrics such as this hemp linen leave other natural fibres in the dust! Hemp plants require 4x less water and half the land compared to organic cotton, the hemp plants also absorb much more CO2 (more than any other crop!) while actively working to improve the health and quality of the soil.
Grown using organic farming methods, this eco-friendly linen fabric is wonderful to work with, it drapes nicely, gathers well, and is a pleasure to sew.
If you're looking for a similar fabric, but in a heavier weight try our classic summer cloth here.
Please note, natural fabrics will shrink when washed anywhere from 5%-12% depending upon the weave and composition. Always pre-wash first to desired temperature.
All natural fabrics will shrink unless they have been hammered by high temperature washes, treatments and finishes - all of that contributes to a larger footprint on our planet - at the hemp shop we never do that.
Priced per full metre length plus offers on 10m, 25m, 50m & 100m. For orders of 50m and above, please contact us for stock/delivery times.
We always recommend checking with a new swatch before ordering, as the minimal treatment and organic cultivation methods may result in subtle changes in the hemp fibres from batch to batch. So the fabric you bought last year might be subtly different to the fabric you buy today.
Please check the fabric for any faults, imperfections or marks as soon as it arrives, as we are unable to accept returns of washed or cut fabric. Due to the minimal sustainable methods used during the production of the yarns, our fabrics are never intensively bleached, and as such they retain all of their natural character. Slubs and slight discolourations in hemp fabrics are not flaws, they are part and parcel of working with such pure and natural fibres.
Hemp is a natural plant fibre. It is 100% biodegradable and does not harm the environment in any way!
It keeps you warm when it’s cool and cool when it’s hot.
Hemp naturally fights off bacteria and fungi such as mold, keeping your fabric smelling fresh. It's also hypoallergenic, making it a perfect choice for anyone with allergies to other natural fibres.
Hemp’s hollow shafts mean it is breathable, and also insulating.
Hemp is the worlds only naturally UV resistant fabric, perfect for keeping the harmful rays of the sun from damaging your skin.
Hemp is an extremely durable, hard wearing fabric. 5x the tensile strength of cotton and 3x more durable. It also gets softer with age.
Hemp is a highly absorbent fabric, meaning it retains the colour and quality when dyed, much more than cotton or linen.
Hemp doesn’t lose shape easily and having an elastic fibre, results in less creasing when compared to some other natural fibres.
