This superb quality hemp and bamboo stretch fleece is a twist on one of our all-time most popular fabrics, the classic hemp and organic cotton fleece.
Instead of cotton, this sustainable fabric incorporates bamboo, and it also features 5% spandex/lycra for additional stretch. We're always loath to include man-made fibres in our fabrics range, but we do recognise there is a solid use-case for including them sometimes. Our reasoning is that it's better that someone uses a fabric that is 95% natural and sustainable, rather than reverting to a fabric with a larger amount of man-made fibres. Any negatives from the man-made component is offset by the astoundingly good work that the hemp does for the planet.
It's great for adding thermal lining to clothing items, as well as for making baby clothing, washcloths, flannels and hand towels. A few things to consider when buying our fabrics...
Then look no further because Hemp Seeds really can be considered the super food: they are one of the most complete sources of vegetable nutrition. Containing each of the big three: perfectly balanced Omega Oils, EFAs (Essential Fatty Acids), and high quality protein containing all of the essential amino acids, not only does the nutrition in Hemp Seeds come in an optimum ratio, but also in the most easily digestible format . It's a win, win, win!
Roughly 35% of Hemp Seed content is oil. This oil contains 80% essential fatty acids (EFAs) comprising 50 - 70% Linoleic Acid (LA), 15 - 25% Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA) and 1 - 6% Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA). It is also contains DHA & EPA. The balance of Linoleic Acid and Alpha-Linolenic Acid in Hempseed oil ably satisfies our needs for EFAs.
Like Soya Beans, Hemp Seeds can be made into numerous nutritious food products. Once the seeds have been squeezed for their oil content, the resulting seed cake can be used for flour to make breads, cakes, cookies and pasta. In addition, the soaked seeds can be made into 'milk', ice cream and non-dairy cheeses. Eating Hemp won't get you high. Hemp is a variety of the plant species Cannabis Sativa but only contains minute amounts of the psychoactive component (THC) - too small for even the slightest effect.

Please note, natural fabrics will shrink when washed anywhere from 5%-12% depending upon the weave and composition. Always pre-wash first to desired temperature.
All natural fabrics will shrink unless they have been hammered by high temperature washes, treatments and finishes - all of that contributes to a larger footprint on our planet - at the hemp shop we never do that.

Always order a swatch first
We always recommend checking with a new swatch before ordering, as the minimal treatment and organic cultivation methods may result in subtle changes in the hemp fibres from batch to batch. So the fabric you bought last year might be subtly different to the fabric you buy today.
Check for faults, imperfections or marks
Please check the fabric for any faults, imperfections or marks as soon as it arrives, as we are unable to accept returns of washed or cut fabric. Due to the minimal sustainable methods used during the production of the yarns, our fabrics are never intensively bleached, and as such they retain all of their natural character. Slubs and slight discolourations in hemp fabrics are not flaws, they are part and parcel of working with such pure and natural fibres.
Cut fabrics are non-refundable
Please note, that once sent, all cut fabrics are non-refundable so please order a swatch if uncertain.
